Civil Service Hurling Club Newsletter 23 July 2013

It was a busy week with hot weather and hard ground making for high scoring fast hurling. In AHL8, our second team had mixed fortunes in our 2 fixtures. We were defeated on Thursday by a stronger Castleknock team at Somerton Park where the home side pulled away in the second half after being closely matched in the first half. However, on Sunday in Islandbridge, we recovered a half time deficit against Clontarf showing great determination to gain the lead with only 10 minutes to go and went on to win by 4-11 to 4-7.

Unfortunately the first team lost to Faughs in a crucial AHL6 game at Tymon Park on Sunday. Despite a spirited performance in the second half, we paid the price for conceding 5 goals in the first half with a final score of 7-7 to 3-14. This week, our training session on Wednesday 24th will be an internal match.

Next weekend we have our Club Weekend away Trip to Limerick playing Garryspillane’s Junior “B” at Knocklong at 3pm on Saturday 27th July. Anyone intending to travel should respond on Teamer or contact our captain James Power for details.

Thanks again to all who supported our recent fundraising event in Shelbourne Park. It was a great night in which we raised some funds for the running of the club and a substantial amount for the VITA organisation for their development work with rural families in southern Ethiopia. In our raffle, the Bumper Prize of €750 was won by Oliver Tierney on a ticket sold by Liam Myles. Gerry Egan, Ger Hawkins, Padraig O’Neill, Conor McCarthy and Frank Martin each won €50. Great credit to the main organisers Adrian Mordan and Liam Myles for this successful event.
