Our aspirations for championship silverware came to an end for our second team with defeat in JHC E quarter final against Tomas Davis on Thursday. Then on Sunday, despite a spirited performance in a hot Fairview Park, we were defeated in AHL8 by St Josephs OCB. However, back in Islandbridge, our first team continued our recent improved form and with the benefit of players returning after absence through injury, we had a convincing victory over Erins Isle to get us back in contention in AHL6.
This week, our big event is our annual race night in Shelbourne Park Dublin on 11th July. This year we are fundraising in partnership with our own long serving member Liam Myles who works with VITA (see www.vita.ie) and is raising funds to participate in the Great Ethiopian Run later this year. The funds raised will be used to support VITA’s development work with rural families in southern Ethiopia to give families a more sustainable livelihood. VITA’s work includes sustainable and environmentally friendly projects which benefit the health and wellbeing of the community involving better farming methods, improved stoves, latrines, water wells/ pumps, tree planting and solar lights. By supporting the Race Night, you and your friends will be helping our club but you will also be supporting Liam’s excellent work with VITA. Tickets are available through club members. Even if you can’t attend, your ticket will be entered in a jackpot draw.
Our next date for the diary is a challenge game v Garryspillane in Limerick on 27th July 2013 with further details in next weeks notes.
