With two games for each our two teams, the week started well, where the first team, after the disappointment of the narrow defeat in championship last weekend, put up one of our best displays of hurling for some time to defeat Kilmacud Crokes in AHL6 by 2-22 to 0-8. Its been a while since we played like that, even if Crokes may have been short of some players involved in school and college exams.
Our second team however had the opposite experience when we travelled to Balbriggan to play O’Dwyers in AHL8 on Thursday in wintery cold windy conditions, we didn’t play to our potential and were beaten both physically and on the score board losing by 8 points.
On Sunday, despite being short of key players, our first team looked like we might continue our success in AHL6 when we recovered a half time deficit away to take the lead against Skerries Harps early in the second half but a soft goal and more youthful running by the seasiders left us down 1-13 to 0-9 at full time.
In our sunny AHL8 encounter in Islandbridge, our depleted second team put on a brave display against a youthful Commercials side with just 2 points between the side at half time but we eventually lost 5-13 to 2-12.
Training continues as usual this week on Monday and Wednesday at 7pm. The Committee last week set Thursday 11th July as the date for our “night at the dogs”. More about that in the coming weeks.
