Civil Service Hurling Club Newsletter 30th July 2013

There was plenty of competitive spirit in Islandbridge last Wednesday when a tightly contested fast moving 9-a-side internal challenge resulted in a narrow victory for the orange bibs.

There was more of that spirit on display when we defeated Garryspillane Junior B side in Knocklong Co. Limerick in our weekend away challenge match. The return of John Clery at full forward alongside Conor Bracken and Rob Griffin in scoring form opened up a first half lead that the home side couldn’t recover with a final score of 7-12 to 4-12. Many thanks to our captain James Power who organised the trip to his home parish and to our hosts in Garryspillane GAA club for the game and the finest ham and cheese sandwiches in O’Donovan’s afterwards for the apres-match analysis. The social programme later in Limerick was enjoyed by all and most of the travelling group were happy campers but maybe a bit tired setting off to Thurles on Sunday.

Congrats to Eamon Fitz and Mella on the announcement of their engagement last week.

Back in Islandbridge it is training as usual this week on Wednesday at 7pm with a few weeks to prepare for important fixtures towards the end of August. Details of our annual clubhouse cleanup and bbq in our notes next week.
