This golf society is open to all present and past members of Civil Service Hurling Club and its main aim is to continue contact amongst former players together with maintaining links between existing hurlers and those retired. New members of all golfing standards are welcome.
History of the Golf Club
Prior to 2002, the society was not well organised. Whilst outings did take place before that year, they were sporadic and not well attended. There was no official committee and without the efforts of Jim Power there probably would not have been any society at all. In 2002 we decided to put the event on a proper footing and an organising committee was formed. In addition, we elected our first Captain and also secured the Civil Service HC Golf Society Perpetual Cup to be awarded to the winner each year. We hold the outing on the Friday before the Hurling All-Ireland Final each year although we have had two washouts so far including this year. On each occasion however, we have sucessfully re-arranged the event within a few weeks. A number of our regular golfers travel from as far away as Cork, Tipperary, Kilkenny etc. and we try to choose a venue on the Naas Road, Castlewarden being the most popular in recent years. The day consists of an 18 hole Singles Stableford competition followed by a four course dinner and prizegiving with up to seven or eight prizes being contested
