Training, Championship Results & Fixtures
Championship back on next week so Training tomorrow night (Wed 2nd) and Bank Holiday Monday (7th) 7.00pm
Bank Holiday Monday training session very important with both teams engaged in championship action in mid week so final opportunity to determine championship team line-ups, full attendance expected.  First Team have a home game opportunity to get back on a winning groove. In last Saturday’s game a slow start (rabbit in the headlight’s) proved our failing and despite a spirited second half the bird had flown.  The final scoreline doesn’t do justice to the game with some sloppy goals consolidating Clan na Geals hold on the game.  We are better then that and Wednesday is the hour to put things right.  Second Team had a first round bye with Pergines failing to field on Sunday last so all to play for Thursday 10th.

Civil Service Hurling Club (Evening Herald Notes Tuesday 1st May)
It wasn’t the start we had hoped for in the championship but its not the end of the world either. In Sean O’Moore Park on a sunny breezy Saturday evening 28th April, our first team were up against Clan na Gael in JHC “A”. The home team took a commanding lead in the first half and, although Civil Service fought back and more than matched their opponents in the second half, they could not recover the deficit. Our second team did not play as St Peregrines were unable to field a team in our JHC “E” fixture. Earlier in the week, in cup competitions on Tuesday 24th April, our first team beat Naomh Olafs in Islandrbridge but our second team were beaten by Lucan Sarsfields in Arthur Griffith Park. Back to training this week. On Monday and Wednesday everyone to be on the pitch in Islandbridge at 7pm sharp. A word of thanks to our new sponsors, the Merchant Arch pub, for our new jerseys which got their first outing in the JHC on Saturday. We didn’t win the match but the lads looked very well! Training Match, Training this week, League Fixtures

Training Match

A very exciting Training game at Islandbridge last Wednesday evening.  Close and well contested throughout with the "Orange Bibs" gaining victory from a last gasp goal on the final attack of the game.  In fading light it appears Dan Cosgrave got the final touch for the orangemen.
If we're to build on the momentum of that game we should have a full house again at training tonight.

League Defeats

11.00am Malahide:
Sylvestors 1.12  Civil Service 1.04  (AHL6)

3.00pm Russell Park:
St. Brigids 3.13 Civil Service 0.03   (AHL8)

A poor day at the office yesterday with both teams encountering heavy defeats in their respective second round games of this year’s league program.  The Club is presently in transition after loosing a large number of established players.  This is particularly the case with our First Team where many have left mainly due to changes in work location including three of our finest in the police department who have moved out of Dublin to greener pastures and a quieter life.  Also yesterdays teams took to the field without the services of many players from our current panels, missing mainly through injury and travel etc.  Hopefully the longer evenings and better ground conditions will bring a new initiative and focus to the Clubs efforts. Also a big welcome to all our new players and hopefully you will stay with us and enjoy success later in the season. The Club will endeavour to stabilise things over the next couple of weeks and with a bit of luck pick up some further new recruits to replace the “A” listed  players we’ve just lost.  Best of Luck and Good fortune to all those ex-player’s and hopefully you enjoyed hurling with us as much as we’re missing your talents now. A request for an Internal 15-a-side Training game will be looked at immediately with a game possibly in the next week or two.

Website

A new version of our website is due to go live this weekend or early next week following recent upgrading.  A big Thank you to EJ Daly, Arian Mordan, Dan Cosgrave and Juan Contreras for the huge volume of work they put in on that upgrade over the last number of weeks, not to mention Larry Boyle’s great contribution in maintaining the old site over the last number of year’s.  The site will now incorporate a number of extra features including auto population of Club Notes and links to a number of social media sites etc. which should overcome past difficulties with updating and create a new dimension for the Club in cyberspace.  What with Web browser, Facebook, Twitter and the postman knocking twice at Islandbridge, hurling for Service will never be the same again.

Training This Week

Islandbridge 7.00pm sharp Tonight (Monday) & Wednesday.

Diary Dates

The Club  is  actively involved in organising a Dog Night forlate May or early June and a Club weekend away, date and venue TBD.
